A family business is, by definition, a company created and managed by a family. But the professional reality goes beyond that. Nowadays it could be defined as a company in which generational continuity is a strategic objective. And this is true, with a certain pride of being it and with values that, otherwise, would be non-existent.
According to some opinion polls, people have more trust in the family business since this kind of companies are seen closer to the people, where quality and good treatment are very important. Besides, the owners’ implication is greater than other kinds of business where owners are only looking for benefits, no caring about the future of the company. All this has caused a better prestige for the family business respecting previous years. But not all was plain sailing.
Not long ago, family businesses were considered companies with a bad management. This image was associated with short-term oriented companies, where they relied more on the founder and less on future generations, or innovative companies or companies committed to society. Nothing could be further from the truth. In Beltá & Frajumar, the professionalization of each project is taken care of to the last detail, with long-term objectives and with a preparation and continuous learning by each department that makes up the company. This demonstrates the continued growth of the company all these years, both logistically and humanly.
In addition, the implication shown by the owners has created such platforms as the InterCIDEC interior design competition, giving students and professionals the opportunity to share their ideas, projects, and ambitions.
Beltá & Frajumar, as a family company, organized a day together with the association of the family company AMEFMUR. In this meeting targeted to young entrepreneurs, we started talking about the history of Beltá & Frajumar and the opportunity was given to the entrepreneur to interact, learning from each other. Later, took place a roundtable, we talked about innovation in general as a fundamental part of the strategy in family businesses, and in the sense of innovation. This roundtable was composed by Sergio Gordillo, founder of Improven, as moderator; Esther Aguirre, president of the youth forum of AMEFMUR, of the company Zamora Company; Isabel Puerta, director of research, development, and innovation at Postres Reina, or Rosario Ibañez, CEO of Metaenlace, among many other attendees present.
