In the beginning, fairs had their origin in Western Europe in the Low Middle Ages. In cities with a strategic geographical situation, an organized confluence of merchants and tradesmen began, -such as blacksmiths, tanners, shearers, and others-, to carry out their business deals. They met for several days, brought the best trends and with a regular annual frequency, took advantage of the feast of some patron saint. And thus, fairs were born!
On the other hand, the commercial and financial practices start; that would motivate the establishment of prices, different types of credit or deferred payment and the best trends, and the places to protect products from the adversities of the climate, which will give birth to the so-called commercial capitalism.
With a century of existence, the Valencia Fair is the oldest event organizer in Spain (1917). It has the largest exhibition area in Spain and one of the ten largest in the world with a total area exceeding 230,000 square meters.
