InterCIDEC 2024, in its ninth edition, has once again shone as the international design competition specialized in contract spaces, where designers and architects from different countries compete and collaborate to create unique concepts in the world of interior design. This year, the competition focused on a very current and increasingly in-demand topic: the design of “glamping” spaces, a fusion of glamour and camping that allows you to experience nature with the comfort of a luxury hotel. The gala, held at the Alicante College of Architects, brought together industry personalities, from interior designers and architects to representatives of collaborating brands, and reaffirmed InterCIDEC’s role as a key platform for discovering new talent and showcasing innovative ideas.

The Concept of “Glamping” and its Relevance in Current Interior Design

“Glamping” has gained popularity among travelers looking for immersive experiences in nature without giving up comfort and luxury. In response to this trend, InterCIDEC 2024 put the focus on projects that were not only visually striking, but also reflected sustainability and respect for the natural environment. This challenged participants to explore local materials, architectural solutions that minimized environmental impact, and concepts that provided an authentic connection with nature. The theme of glamping, so closely linked to contract design, opened a space for contestants to create proposals that responded to the demand for a novel and environmentally friendly hotel experience.

Awards Gala at the Alicante College of Architects

The Alicante College of Architects was the perfect setting for this edition’s awards ceremony. This space, with its professional atmosphere and openness to contemporary design, added a touch of elegance to the gala. The ceremony was chaired by prominent personalities, including Remedios Lajara, Mayor of Yecla, and representatives of AREMA and CETEM, who came together to celebrate the talent and creativity of the finalist designers. The awards ceremony included moments of great emotion, such as the thank you speeches of the winners, who shared reflections on the importance of design in the transformation of spaces and its role in society.

Main Prize: José Luis Montesinos Valls and his project “Varadero Landscape Glamping”

José Luis Montesinos, an interior designer from Valencia, won the first prize thanks to “Varadero Landscape Glamping”, a project that encapsulates the essence of glamping through elevated structures, designed to harmonize with natural landscapes such as beaches and mountains. In his acceptance speech, Montesinos shared: “It is an honor to receive this recognition, I did not expect it when I saw the quality of the works this year. I thank the jury and the organization for opening this window for us where we show how design meets social needs.” This approach by Montesinos, of bringing comfort to natural environments without damaging the environment, highlights the ability of design to adapt to new forms of interaction with the environment.

Emerging Trends in Contract Design: From “Glamping” to Sustainable Spaces

The 2024 edition of InterCIDEC confirmed that contract design is evolving towards more sustainable concepts that are connected to nature. Increasingly, interior design seeks to incorporate local materials, reduce environmental impact and create experiences that allow users to enjoy natural environments without giving up comfort. The “glamping” trend is just one manifestation of a paradigm shift towards a design that values the quality of the environment and the user experience.

InterCIDEC: Platform for Innovation and Talent in Interior Design

Since its creation, InterCIDEC has established itself as a platform where designers and architects can present their most innovative proposals. This anniversary will not only commemorate a decade of innovation and creativity, but will also open a new phase in the history of the competition, which will seek to continue raising the level of the proposals and expanding the influence of InterCIDEC as a benchmark in the world of contract design. The 2025 edition with the proposed theme “Multipurpose Room” is shaping up to be an opportunity to explore new solutions and consolidate InterCIDEC’s commitment to creativity and sustainability.
